A life dedicated to patients

The life of St. Zdislava who was born in the 13th century in Moravia and continued to live in Northern Bohemia, is an extraordinary example of a life for others. Her family life with her husband Havel of Lemberk was an example of faithfulness, support of family spirituality, and honorable decency.

Zdislava was born in a small town of Krizanov that lies near the towns of Zdar and Velke Mezirici, close to 1220. The exact date of birth is not known. Thus, by birth she was a Moravian Lady. Her parents were reasonably rich, well educated, and very religious. She had a younger sister and a brother. All, Zdislava, Euphemia and Elise, married Czech nobelmen, and gained considerable fame mainly by their virtuous life.

Her exemplary life filled with love for God and people, full of desire for the salvation of souls, and her miraculous powers assisting men suff ering of bodily harms have been reproduced in 24 paintings that are hanging in her tomb below the floor of the St. Lawrence Basilica in Jablonne.

The level of her faith became very conscious and mature. She lived the liturgy, participated in daily ceremonies with the Dominicans in Jablonne. During the construction of that church she and the members of the household participated in the process to speed it up. She worked at night so that the workers could continue next day undisturbed. She desired to become part of the results.

This Saint Lady is even today helping extraordinarily others who turn to her in their spiritual and physical needs, as witnessed by many dedications at her tomb.
