Dotted with blooming gardens and golden fi elds of grain, the Haná Plain is one of the most fertile lands in the Czech Republic. It excels not only due to the favourable climate but also because of its regional delicacies that originate from the healthy countryside and its folklore with richly decorated costumes and a highly distinctive dialect.
The name Haná is mentioned in various sources as early as the 16th century; however, in those days the area was limited to the part around the river of the same name, and it differed from the nearby areas due to its fertility. The name was spread further in the territory where people spoke with a Central Moravian – Haná dialect. In the 19th century, the most spectacular costumes in Moravia were created in Haná. Haná folklore and rural art are still preserved today in the folk customs, ceremonies and celebrations.
The Morava River runs like a blue thread that intertwines the Haná Plain. The climatic conditions, especially in the lowlands, determine agricultural and food production of the Olomouc Region (wheat, malting barley, hops, meat and dairy industries). This picturesque part of Moravia is particularly rich in history, folklore and culture. There was also the mixing of cultures in the past with pockets of the German-speaking population, and areas with the native Jewish population that originated in Olomouc. Visit Haná — the land of King Ječmínek — and experience its beauty for yourself.
